Sylvia Annis Fung passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at the Touchmark at Wedgewood long term care centre in Edmonton. She was 98. She was born Sylvia Lee, on the island of Trinidad in the West Indies and was predeceased by her parents, three siblings and the love of her life – her husband, Cecil.
Sylvia moved to Guyana (South America) at an early age and grew up there until she was in her mid 20’s. At that time, she returned to Trinidad, met and married Cecil Fung.
Sylvia is survived by her son, Paul (Janet); grandsons, Nathan (Terry) and Trevor (Chelsie); and great-granddaughters, Ella and Addy.
Sylvia enjoyed gardening, whether in Trinidad or Edmonton and took great pleasure in being close to nature. She had a strong faith and was a devoted member of Grace Chapel (in Trinidad) and Riverbend United Church (in Edmonton). Anyone who met her would benefit from her willingness to offer words of encouragement and advice on just about any subject imaginable.
Special thanks go out to the caring staff at Touchmark for their excellent care in looking after Sylvia during her stay at the facility.
A celebration of Sylvia’s life will be held at a later date.

Aunt Sylvia was a born again Christian who demonstrated the beauty of Christ through her kind and gracious spirit. She will always have a special in our hearts.

Anne & Roy Fung says
Roy & Anne Fung & family wish to extend our deepest sympathy on the passing of your Mom, Mother-in-law and grandmother. Auntie Sylvia was a terrific, family- oriented person with whom we had many visits when we lived in Trinidad and again after we moved away and traveled back home on mini vacations. She was always keen to show off her gardening efforts in that huge space in Valsayn. We admired her strong will and independent spirit. May she Rest In Peace.
Andrew says
I’m very sorry to hear about Sylvia. She was, and I mean this in the most adoring way, quite a character.
I had many entertaining conversations with Sylvia during my visits. She was always quick with a story and certainly cared about my well-being (“Don’t drive in this weather, Andrew.”, “Did you eat breakfast? You have to eat breakfast.”). I felt that care that only a mom or grandma can give.
Paul, I’m so sorry your mom is gone.
She was a unique lady, and you (and the whole family) certainly showed how much you loved her. I’m sure she felt it.
