Sheryl Catherine Walker passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, after a long battle with vascular dementia at the age of 69. We will remember Sheryl for her adventurous spirit, love of laughter, her kindness to those in need, and loyalty to dear friends that she cherished.
Sheryl lived her best life while traveling to many countries around the world with only a backpack and her adventurous spirit. She loved traveling with friends, but when friends ran out of money or got homesick, Sheryl did not let that stop her. She continued her adventures, often staying at hostels in countries where it was rare for women to travel on their own. She loved telling stories about her travels to many countries within Europe and would light up sharing her favourite stories of her travels in Turkey, Egypt and Africa.
Sheryl started her career with Telus at age 22 as a telephone operator and took on many different roles, mostly within Customer Service, until her retirement 34 years later. Midway during her career and filled with determination and desire for change, Sheryl stopped at nothing to secure an alternate job within Telus until she eventually landed a job in Grande Prairie driving a truck and operating a forklift. After giving it her best shot in Grande Prairie, she conceded that it wasn’t a good fit, and took on a customer Service role with Telus in Calgary where she ended her 34 year career at age 55. After retirement, Sheryl moved to Vernon to enjoy a warmer climate until health issues brought her back to Edmonton to be with her family in 2015.
Sheryl is survived by her brothers Larry (Lis), Wayne (Kathy), Terry and her sister Holly (Dave) Barton; Nieces and Nephews Krista (Kris) Jewitt and their children Jacob and Reghan, Angela and her son Anthony, Daniel, Kyle, Sean, TJ and Sarah. She was predeceased by her parents Ronald and Catherine.
An intimate family service will be held on Sunday, October 20th.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Capital Care Lynnwood and Copper Sky Lodge in Spruce Grove for their compassionate care and friendship.
In support of Sheryl’s love for animals, donations can be made to your local SPCA.

My heart aches for the walker family. I fondly remember the good old days in Fort Saskatchewan when we were close neighbours, Sheryl was a couple of years younger than Larry and me and very good at water fights! May she rest in peace.
