It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Selma Younghans of Edmonton, on January 24, 2022 at the age of 88.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Paul; her four children, Natalie, David (Jaime-Lynn), Sara (James) Lenihan, Susan (Dustin) Mcclain; grandchildren, Max, Zoe, Sam, Silas, Ireland, and Lucy; sisters, Edna (Ed, deceased) Schultz, Elsie (Fred, deceased) Tonn; brother, Larry (Hazel) Breitkreutz; sister-in-law, Josie Laarz; sister-in-law, Heidi Breitkreuz; and numerous relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Rudolph and Emilie; and her brothers, Ervin and Arnie.
Selma was born December 15, 1933, in Cherhill, Alberta. She grew up working on the family farm and taking care of her younger siblings. She gave her heart to Jesus in 1949 and was baptized in the Pembina River along with her siblings in 1950. In 1951 she moved to Edmonton and started working for the government. Although Selma met Paul some years earlier on the farm, they did not begin dating until they reconnected at The Lighthouse Church in Edmonton. They were married on November 3, 1956, recently celebrating 65 years together. Selma was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, and friend. She loved her children and grandchildren and treasured each moment with them. She had a passion for gardening, knitting, crocheting, reading, and cooking. She enjoyed spending time with people; listening and getting to know them and making everyone feel welcome. She would offer a hot meal and warm place to sleep to anyone in need and always ensured everyone who came through the door was welcomed & safe. She was a nurturer of people and never missed a chance to tell others about the Love of Jesus. She will be dearly missed.
