Neil passed away, held and cuddled by his family in his final hours at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton.
He will be lovingly remembered by his twins, Ken (Deenie) and Sonja (Lloyd) Anderson; grandchildren, Danielle (Nick) Mckeen, Keiran (Grace) Goyer, Emily and Helaina; great-grandsons, Ryker, Huntley, Colt and Stockton; sisters, Edna, Gloria and Bonnie (Joe); brothers, David (Margo), Raymond (Claudia) and Bruce (Susan); special nephew, Mike (Rhonda) Klos; as well as many other much loved nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by his close friends Don, Paul and Ben as well as many more dear friends.
We had 7 months more with dad after a major health plummet in the spring where he spent a month in the hospital. He wanted to meet his 4th great-grandson who was born in June; have one more steak at the Bruce Hotel’s famous steak bbq, which he did in July; go fishing one more time which he did a month ago with his best friend and son-in-law, and he had one more Thanksgiving – the biggest holiday of the year for him when all his family and close friends come together for food and more laughter than should fit in one house!
We want to thank all of his friends and family that encouraged and supported his recovery which brought him this far. He had so many loving people that he fought to live for. His suffering is over and he’s found his peace.
He is predeceased by his parents, Hector and Marie; step father, Karl; brothers, Hector Jr., Allan, Norman, and Brian; sister, Marie; brother-in-law, Hugh and “adopted” Mum Jean Bracha in 2022.
A Celebration of Dad’s Life will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at 1:00pm at the Bruce Community Hall in Bruce, AB. For those who wish, donations in his memory may be made to the Alberta Lung Association.

I’m very sorry to hear of Neil’s passing. In the times I met Neil he was engaging, funny, sharp eyed, and spoke both happily and proudly of his family. What I remember about Neil most is that he was generous and he was kind. He once came by the house when we’d first moved in, and walked through it with me explaining things that maybe were and weren’t worth addressing. I’d heard of Neil all my life but there weren’t many opportunities for us to meet. When he came to the house he spoke to me like an uncle would, and he shared his insights, his patience, and some pretty decent jokes. I’m glad I got to meet Neil as an adult. He was great.
With love and condolences to the family (and friends),
