It is with great sadness that the family of Linda Herranen (Jarvi) announce her passing on April 2, 2023 at the Misericordia Hospital in Edmonton at the age of 75.
Linda was born September 6, 1947 in Waters Township to parents Toivo and Kay Jarvi.
She married her elementary sweetheart Melvin and from that point on, Linda and Melvin enjoyed spending all of their time together. In their younger years, they were known to drive fast cars which always had room for one more. Together, Linda and Melvin owned and operated Walden Nickel Taxi in Water’s Township which introduced them to many wonderful people. Many wonderful memories were made at their family camp on Lake Agnew. Along with always putting her family first, Linda had a very successful 30 year career as Legal Secretary in Sudbury. After battling and defeating some personal and family health challenges, Linda and Melvin decided they were ready for something new and this led them to Niagara Falls. Both Linda and Melvin enjoyed many wonderful years working at Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls. After her final retirement from the Casino, Linda and Melvin moved to London, Ontario to be closer to her sister Karen. With a few more moves, Linda and Melvin settled in Edmonton, Alberta with hopes of spending as much time as possible with their children and grandchildren.
Linda was well known and respected for her Finnish SISU! She was a devoted volunteer at her children’s elementary school and her recipes are probably still being used in cookbooks created and sold as fundraisers for the school. She was a talented baker who enjoyed sharing her delicious pulla and cinnamon buns with family and friends. Linda was a generous lady who enjoyed getaways to Vegas and shopping for and sharing gifts with everyone! It was her tradition that Christmas shopping starts in January for the next coming Christmas.
Linda was loved dearly and will be forever missed by her husband Melvin of more than 57 years. She was a proud and devoted mother to her two daughters Tobi (Daryl) and Carla (Mike). She was proud to be Emma, Isaac, Liam, Owen and Benji’s Grandmother. Linda is survived by her brother Albert Jarvi (Denise), sisters Karen Punkari (Doug -predeceased) (Bob Maginnis) and Darlene Cook (Bob). She will be missed by her nieces and nephews in Sudbury and London.
We are certain Linda was greeted at Heaven’s Gate with open arms by her parents Toivo & Kay Jarvi, her dearly loved Fur Babies, brothers Arnold, Bobby, Lance, Randy and her sisters Irene and Marlyn.
In keeping with Linda’s wishes, she has been cremated. There is no service scheduled at this time. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society in Linda’s memory. https://on.alz.to/site/Donation2?df_id=2887&mfc_pref=T&2887.donation=form1#buttonsection or by calling 1-800-616-8816.
