On Friday, October 4, 2024, Kathy passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 68. She is survived by the love of her life, Richard, with whom she shared 48 years; her sons, Chad (Laura) Bodnarek, and Brett (Katelyn) Bodnarek; and her two siblings, Bob (Dodie) Neurauter. and Ross Neurauter.
Kathy was born on December 17, 1955, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, and was the youngest of three children of Thelma and Arnold Neurauter. She attended Christopher Lake School as she grew up and graduated from high school in 1971 at the age of 16. After high school, Kathy graduated from a community college in Prince Albert where she completed administrative studies.
Kathy spent a summer working in Waskesiu before moving to Edmonton with some friends. It was in Edmonton that she met Richard while he was attending the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT). They were married on June 19, 1976, with a ceremony and reception in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. After marriage, they spent a year living in Swan Hills together before returning to Edmonton.
Kathy dedicated the majority of her working life to Stantec (formerly Stanley Engineering) in multiple roles including payroll, HR, and business services. Kathy took time off from work to raise her sons, Chad and Brett, who were born on March 5, 1988, and June 29, 1990, respectively. Before returning to Stantec, she held several other jobs, including a brief stint at Ward Air, which provided her and Rick the opportunity to travel to destinations such as Hawaii, Barbados, and Fiji.
As a family, they loved spending time together, including camping, golfing, and attending hockey tournaments for the boys. Every summer, they would visit Fairmont Hot Springs in the family motorhome to enjoy the local golf courses and relax in nature. Some of the most memorable family trips included Disneyland, Mexico and Hawaii.
Kathy was an extraordinary cook, always experimenting with new recipes for the family. She prepared holiday meals that brought everyone together and delighted in making a variety of baked treats during Christmas, which was her favourite time of year. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures- cherishing moments with family and friends, golfing, enjoying her favourite books and taking walks through her neighbourhood.
Kathy was a devoted wife and mother who always put others before herself. She will be greatly missed.
Family and friends will be invited to a Celebration of Life on Sunday, October 20th, between 1 pm and 4 pm at Cattail Crossing Golf and Winter Club (24427 Township Road 542, Sturgeon County, Alberta) to remember this incredible woman.
