Karen Lee Hutchinson was born on February 27, 1962, in Grande Prairie, Alberta, the 3rd and youngest child of Duane and Arlene Kerik. She passed away suddenly on June 23, 2024.
While Karen was born with some challenges, she was given incredible opportunities and exceeded all expectations. When she was in her late teens, Karen moved to Edmonton to attend Vocational College, where she learned life skills that did her well throughout her life. She was a whiz at budgeting, numbers, and organization.
Karen remained in Edmonton, and when she joined a club for challenged adults as secretary, she met her future husband, Layne, who was the president. They quickly fell in love and married in May of 1985.
Karen was very sociable and she made many friends over the years. Everyone who met Karen and Layne absolutely loved them, and she leaves many great neighbors and friends to mourn her loss.
Karen leaves many family members who will remember her with love forever: her husband, Layne, and his sister, Ethel (Phil) Crittendon; her siblings, Sherry (Dennis) Holyk; brother, Murray (Debbie) Kerik; and many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her parents in June 2022.
As per Karen’s wishes, a private immediate family gathering will be held to intern her ashes at Flatbush Cemetery, near her parents.
