With great sadness, we announce that Joyce (née Ewanchuk) passed away peacefully.
Joyce, known as “Baba”, is survived by her husband Jim of 61 years, her children Jodi (Mark) and Dean (Maria), and grandchildren Graeme and Jennifer.
Born in Willingdon and raised in Hairy Hill, AB, she became an elementary teacher for Edmonton Public Schools. Her greatest joys were family, gardening, and cooking. Her favourite holiday was Christmas, where she could shop to her heart’s content, entertain and cook. She loved spoiling her family, especially her grandchildren, grandniece, nieces and nephews. Baba took pride in her home and kept it sparkling clean. Despite Baba’s health issues, she enjoyed life to the fullest and continued to pursue her hobbies. Her passions were teaching her Ukrainian culinary traditions, crocheting, crosswords, attending theatre, travelling, conversing about current events and getting her hair done. She had a feisty nature, and a wonderful sense of humour. She was a joy to be with and had the love and respect of all who knew her. Baba’s strength and courage were an inspiration. Before Baba passed, she planted her garden and it will be continued in her honour. She will be deeply missed.
As per her wishes, there will be no service. Donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation.
