Josefina Buendia
August 5, 1962 – November 3, 2024
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Josefina Buendia, lovingly known as “Mama Pepot,” on November 3, 2024. Born on August 5, 1962, in La Union, Philippines, Josefina lived a life filled with love, kindness, and dedication to her family and community. She passed peacefully with her family around her, leaving a legacy of warmth and care.
Josefina dedicated over two decades as an elementary teacher at Toro Hills in the Philippines from 1991 to 2013, impacting countless young lives. In 2014, she migrated to Regina, Canada, seeking new beginnings and to be with her daughters, Diane and Jamaica, who had settled in Canada earlier. She continued her passion for education, serving as a teacher assistant in Regina Catholic Schools until 2022. When her daughter-in-law, MaryAnn, joined the family, they opened a home daycare where Josefina became the beloved assistant. Known to the children as “Nanay,” “Lola,” or “Teacher Josie,” she welcomed each one with open arms, becoming a cherished grandmother figure in their lives.
Josefina was a devoted mother to her three children—Johanna Diane, Jamaica, and Jewel Buendia—raising them with love and strength after the passing of her husband, Delfin Buendia, in 1992. She took immense pride in seeing each of her children achieve their dreams. Her seven grandchildren brought boundless joy into her life, and her home became a center of love, warmth, and laughter.
Known for her joyful, sweet nature, Josefina always put her family first. Her passing leaves a profound void, but her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.
