John Joseph Smith, aged 69 died at the Gene Zwozdesky Center in Edmonton, Alberta on December 16, 2023, surrounded by family and friends.
John was born October 14th, 1954 in St. John’s, Newfoundland the son of the late David and Mary Smith, he was the 6th of twelve siblings. He was predeceased by his son, Alan; brother, David; sister, Margaret; nephews, Colin Seaboyer, James Smith; and brother-in-law, Gary Perry. He served in the army where he developed his trade as a truck driver. He loved his occupation up until the day he became ill and was hospitalized. He was also an avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors.
He is survived by his daughter, Nowdlak Kelly; and his son-in-law, Adamie Sakeeta of Iqaluit, NU; granddaughters, Amelia Maurice (husband Caleb Mills), Mia Maurice, Reign Sakeeta; great granddaughter, Jade Mills; brothers, Maurice (wife Ann), Paul (wife Joelle); sisters, Bettyann Smith, Marie Smith (Barry Penny), Louise Seaboyer, Bernadette Porter (husband Brian) Sheilagh Burke (husband Gerard), Tina Bishop (husband Chris) and Janet Oates. He is also survived by his many grand nieces, and nephews, and one great niece.
A special thank you is owed to the management and staff of Highland Moving Company, the management of Kirkwood place and to two special neighbours Margaret and Annette. Also a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Smitha Yaltho, Dr. Walters, Ms. Aya Wright, LMSW, RSW, and to the nursing staff, and housekeeping staff for all of their concern and help and for treating John like family.
