After a courageous and well fought battle with cancer, it is with great sadness that we announce the loss of our James Samuel Marshall on March 13, 2023 at the age of 81 years.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 47 years Carmen, his daughter Nicole, his son-in-law Michael (Sestito) and grandchildren Logan, Zoe and Ethan.
Originally from Hamilton and then Dundas, Ontario, James was a hard-working steelworker at Slater Steel/Burlington Specialty Bar for over 40 years. Ever the renaissance man, James enjoyed his fine wine, books, music, theatre, politics and local coffee shop with his newspapers. A diehard life-long Yankees’ fan, he loved all things sports but especially his baseball, football, and the Montreal Canadiens.
A dedicated family man, he moved to Edmonton with Carmen during the COVID Pandemic to be closer to the lights of his life – his beloved daughter and her family. Living up to his Irish heritage, James was blessed with the gift of the gab. He could make anyone laugh with his animated storytelling, and was intensely proud of his family — especially his three young grandchildren with whom he loved to laugh and play. We will forever miss your smiling Irish eyes.
Cremation has taken place. Those wishing to make a contribution in his memory may donate to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation of which James was a firm supporter, or the Pilgrims Hospice Society recognizing the care and much needed compassion given to him and his family during his final days at Roozen Family Hospice.
