With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Inger Johnsen at the age of 92, under the wonderful care of the staff at Extendicare Eaux Claires.
Inger was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Richard, in June 2010, her oldest son, Stephan, in July 2022, daughter in-law, Roxanne, in March 2020, as well as all her siblings.
Inger will be lovingly remembered by her children, Shirley (John) and Susan (Ken), and Frank (Ann); 14 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nephews, Dennis (Pam) and Eric (Carol); as well as many nieces and nephews in Denmark.
Inger was born with her twin brother at their parent’s farm near the town of Brande, Denmark. She had eight siblings and was involved in sport at a young age including gymnastics, handball, track and field, and skeet shooting. She met the love of her life, Richard, while still at home in Denmark. They were married on January 30, 1954, and two days later sailed on a ship to Canada to begin their new life together in Alberta. Even though Inger cherished her memories of Denmark and continued with some Danish traditions, she loved Canada and was proud to be a Canadian, working side by side with Richard on the farm for many years until his passing. Inger was very industrious keeping busy with raising four children and making her homemade meals from scratch. She planted and harvested from her incredibly huge vegetable garden, canned or froze fruits and vegetables, made jams and jellies, dabbled in wine making, extracted honey from her beehives, and baked often, using farm-fresh cream and butter. We all remember her baking; the wonderful smell of bread, pies, cinnamon buns, and lots and lots of cookies. There was always a treat and cup of coffee waiting for visitors at Inger’s home.
We will miss Mom’s gentle manner, her happy outlook on life, easy smile, her caring and thoughtfulness for others. Without hesitation, she always cheerfully jumped into help if needed. We will all miss her dearly.
Cremation has taken place. Anyone who would like to pay their respects on November 19, 2023, please email Shirley Osborne at sosborne@jwo.ca or Susan Campbell at campbellsusan19@gmail.com for details of her Celebration of Life.
