It is with deep sorrow and love that we mourn the passing of Gilbert Jerrett, of Edmonton, on Friday, November 17, 2023, at the age of 81 years. His passing has left a void in our hearts after a year long battle with cancer.
Gil will be lovingly remembered by his family; daughter, Bettina Yeske; son-in-law, Robert; cherished granddaughter, Breanna; sisters and brothers, Janice, Lillian, Sharon, Helen, Gloria, Christine, and David; sister-in-law, Lona; brother-in-law, Eric; nieces and nephews; other extended family members and many special friends.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Fern Jerrett; his parents, Hubert and Sarah Jerrett; sisters and brothers, Dolores, Raymond, Anita, and Wally.
Gil was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who had a special bond with his granddaughter who he always spoke about with others. Gil served in the Canadian Air Force for 25 years as an electronics/instrumentation specialist. His service took his family to Europe and then returning to Canada with many postings across the country. Gil was born in Catalina Newfoundland where he grew up and taught in a one room school house on Ireland’s Eye at the age of 16. Even after moving away from Newfoundland, he heart was always there. Everyone will also remember Gil for his love of fishing and his many stories he told about his experiences in life.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 17, 2024. Our family wishes to send a special thank you to the doctors and nurses of the St. Albert Sturgeon Community Hospital for their exceptional and
compassionate care they provided to Gil in his last week. We also wish to thank the staff at the Cross Cancer Institute and Bayshore Home Health for their continued care during the year. Lastly we want to thank the staff and residents of The Waterford Of Summerlea for welcoming Gil into their retirement residence. Even though he was only there for a short time, he loved the community and enjoyed the food. Your care and support for Gil will always be remembered.
