COCKWILL, Garnet
January 30, 1966 – May 1, 2022
Garnet passed away peacefully on May 1, 2022, at the age of 56 years.
He was born in Regina, SK and grew up in St. Albert, AB. He graduated from Paul Kane High School and completed a program in Journalism at Grant MacEwan College.
Garnet had a very independent spirit and was equally strong willed, and he did it “his way” right to the very end. In his early years, he enjoyed playing a variety of wheelchair sports, including wheelchair basketball, and developed a keen interest in general history, but especially in early western history. There probably isn’t a classic western novel he hasn’t read fewer than twice!
Garnet always enjoyed a good game of scrabble or crib, doing crosswords and word searches. He treasured memories of camping trips, and fishing in BC mountain lakes.
Garnet is survived by his loving parents, Dennis and Gail Cockwill; and eight siblings, Janice (Edwin), Brenda (John), Lorna, Russell (Jane), Sandra (Warren), Darrell, Glenn (Doug), and Doug (Michelle); thirteen nieces and nephews and fifteen great nieces/nephews, as well as a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins.
As per Garnet’s request, cremation has taken place and there will not be a formal service; however, a family gathering will take place to share favorite stories and memories.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the many friends and caregivers who assisted in Garnet’s journey.

I am so sorry for your loss . I attended high school with Garnet and had a lot of laughs with him in Social Studies (and played volleyball with Sandra.) At a reunion weekend some 20 years later, I talked to Garnett for a long time but never knew if he was joking or serious about his adventures (and struggles.) I had not been in touch since but will always remember him very fondly. Blessings to him and all those who grieve his loss.
