David Frank Everitt (72) of Edmonton, Alberta, died on January 25, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. David was born to Frank and Hazel Everitt on October 26, 1951, in Bon Accord, Alberta. He was a loving son, father, and grandfather who spent his life in service to his community working with youth and families to overcome obstacles, and find success. David is survived by his children, Melissa Everitt-Dallinger (Dale Dallinger) and Matthew Everitt (Andrea Christiansen); their mother, Jacqui Sample; his grandsons, Jack, Frank, and Ted; sister, Dianne Field (David Field); his long-time wife, Wendy Everitt; and her family, Michael, Marcy, and Buckley.
David was passionate about giving his life in service to others. Through his work in Social Services, his fostering of children, and his dedication to his pets, his compassion for others was evident in his daily life. He was a quiet and unassuming man who believed in seeking to understand others. He often helped those around him shift their perspective and he fought tirelessly for marginalized people. David made a big impact on many lives. He will be truly missed.
His last two years of life were a terrible struggle. He was diagnosed with throat cancer and was treated by the wonderful staff at the Cross Cancer. Shortly after he was diagnosed with tongue cancer, and had 90% of his tongue removed and a new tongue rebuilt by a great staff at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Though he worked hard to overcome such a radical surgery, he never really recovered, and spent his last months at the Norwood Centre. Through all his trials, David retained his patience and humour, often surprising those around him. He is an example of perseverance and grace, and though we are devastated he is gone, we, his family and friends, must find consolation in the fact that his suffering is finally over.
