(Eva) Carol (Audrey) Woodhouse passed away peacefully in Edmonton, AB on March 22, 2022 at the age of 88 years after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease. In her final days she was surrounded by her family and many close friends.
Carol (Huddleston) was born in Killam, AB on November 10, 1933 and grew up on the family farm near Strome, AB along with her brother, Allister, and sisters Sheelah, Clara & Jackie. In 1951 Carol moved to Edmonton, AB to enroll in nursing at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, where she made many lifelong friends and met Bruce who would become the love of her life and ‘old buddy’.
She and Bruce married and built a home in Parkview, which they lived in for over sixty years while raising their three children, cats, fish, and whatever other critters their kids would bring home. Carol cherished family gatherings and adored her grandchildren never missing an opportunity to play games or pass on family stories or recipes. Carol was an avid reader and accomplished seamstress, crafter, decorator, cook and baker, making for a rich family life. She earned the nickname ‘Mrs. Clean’ as the house was always spotless, and everyone eagerly awaited receiving her Christmas bread, which she made right up until this past year with the help of her grand-daughter Olivia.
Carol was very active in the Church and volunteered for the local Community League. Through these activities Carol and Bruce developed a close-knit group of friends who enjoyed many social activities together, including coffee every Friday for years. The group’s love of travel took them to many places around the world including numerous trips to Europe as well as Africa, Australia and a number of tropical destinations.
Carol will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, Bruce; sons, David (Patricia), and Stuart (Shana); daughter, Sheelah; sisters, Jackie (Makarowski), and Sheelah (Bock); and grandchildren, Olivia, Nigel, Lucas, Ryan, and Kurtis.
The Family would like to thank the Roozen Family Hospice Centre and the wonderful staff who lovingly cared for Carol in her final days.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday April 1st at 2:00 at St. Andrew’s United Church (9915-148 St NW, Edmonton, AB). We ask that masks be worn, and due to COVID there will not be a reception. If desired, memorial donations can be made to St. Andrew’s United Church Memorial Fund.
