It is with great sadness that the family of Bina Ann Ethel Richardson (nee Magee) announces her passing after a courageous battle with cancer, on March 6, 2021 in Edmonton, Alberta at the age of 71.
Bina was born on January 18, 1950 in Lafleche, Saskatchewan, one of three children to Ellen (nee Lott) and Frank Magee. Bina grew up in Aneroid, Saskatchewan until she and her family moved to Shaunavon, Saskatchewan where she worked as a telephone operator for SaskTel. It was in Shaunavon that Bina met her husband Ted. Bina was united in marriage to Edward (Ted) Richardson on March 28, 1970. It was after her marriage to Ted that the couple moved to Medicine Hat, Alberta and she started her most important role as mother to her three children; Cheryl, John and Rhonda. The family moved to Spruce Grove, Alberta in 1980 and that is where they still live today. Bina loved being a stay- at- home mom and being able to provide a hot lunch when her kids came home from school, as well as being able to help with homework at the end of the day. Even though she would hold other jobs throughout the years, at EdTel and as high school custodian, her most cherished role was always that of wife and mother.
In more recent years, Bina’s greatest joy came from spending time with her grandsons. Whether it be hosting a sleepover or taking them camping, she would always find a way to make them feel special. She taught them many things; including how to make buns (and cinnamon buns), plant a garden, sew/craft, and play video games. Grandsons and grand-dogs were always welcome and her house was always stocked with plenty of treats for both. Her grandsons will miss her greatly, but they are grateful for the time and special memories they got to create with such a loving grandmother.
Bina is survived by her husband Ted; their three children, Cheryl (Clay) Hardy, John (Dacia) Richardson, and Rhonda (Derek) Bradford; her sister, Alta Magee and her three grandsons, Nathan and Shane Hardy and Malakai Bradford. She will also be greatly missed by her two canine sidekicks, Miki and Sammy. She was predeceased by her parents; Ellen (nee Lott) and Frank Magee and her brother James (Jim) Magee.
Her family would like to thank all of the nurses, doctors and EMS staff that provided such compassion and caring during her last few weeks. Although Bina hated hospitals, she was astonished by the kindness of her health care team, and it certainly made it much easier in her last few weeks.
Bina requested cremation and that there be no formal funeral service held. Anyone that knew Bina knew that she loved animals, especially dogs. Donations can be made in her name to The Barrhead Animal Rescue Society. Please click here to donate.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family at this most difficult time. Cherish the memories, those can not be forgotten or taken away.
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you wake in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
