It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Don Widynowski on July 5th 2024, at the age of 74.
Don will be dearly missed by his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Charlotte Widynowski; his children, Sherri, Jeff (Tara), Erin (Shane), and Kristopher; his grandchildren, Noah, Aliya, Parker, Charlize, Max, Zachary, Sophia, Jackson and Kinley; as well as his brother, Garry (Debbie) Widynowski; and his sister, Joanne Parss. Don was predeceased by his parents, Aulie and Peter Widynowski. Don has numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, colleagues and friends who will also miss his presence tremendously.
Don graduated from the faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta. As a Professional Engineer, he started two companies and enjoyed his work immensely. His work associates were also his life-long friends. Don enjoyed fishing, golfing, family vacations, and travel. He was the ultimate story teller and loved to share a meal and a toast wherever he went. Don was an Edmonton Eskimos and an Edmonton Oilers fan, and season ticket holder for over 30 years. His legacy will live on through his family and friends as they continue to vacation in Fairmont Hot Springs, enjoy weekends at the lake lot, and cheer loud for our Edmonton teams for years to come.
Don’s family would like to thank the staff at the Cross Cancer Institute (CCI), the Homecare Palliative Team, and the Grey Nuns Tertiary Palliative Unit for providing dignified and compassionate care. Special thank-you to Dr. Furlong and Dr. John for supporting Don and his family in his last few days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CCI, Grey Nuns Tertiary Palliative Unit or the Health Equipment Loan Program.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
