It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of Hans De Jager on Oct 4th, 2023 after a very long battle with cancer.
Hans was born on Jan 28th 1950 in Nederland and Immigrated to Canada with his family in April of 1952 aboard the S.S Waterman. The family eventually settled in the Lethbridge area where Hans could be found either helping him mom in the kitchen or playing in the fields with his brothers and sister on the family farm.
Hans eventually settled down In Airdrie, Alberta. Where he became a staple of his community. He drove truck for the Dairy for many years in Calgary before moving on to other transportation companies. When he retired he still drove school bus for first student in Airdrie. He was the guy that could fix almost anything, If you needed a specialty tool he likely had it, he was the type to help out on any project that needed done in the neighbourhood, tree removal, fences built, decks built, house repairs, car repairs… he would always lead the charge. In the summers he could be found mowing all the neighbours lawns and in the winter snow blowing all the driveways and side walks in the area.
He was a treasured father, friend, brother and son.
Hans is survived by his Daughter, Tamara ( Matthew); grandson, Dominic; brothers, Hank (Julie), Dennis ( Diane), and John (Maryann); sister Nellie ( Webb); plus many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Cornelia; Father, Adrian; brother, Andy.
A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
Peggy Buzzard says
I am so grateful Hans was our neighbour. I will miss chatting with him and our neighbourhood dynamic will not be the same. Hans had a very caring, helpful heart. If there was a need, he would be there to offer what help he could.
He is missed.
