It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of James (Jim) Moats. Jim grew up on the family farm just northeast of Regina, where he enjoyed getting together with cousins and extended family being with school friends, community softball, playing the piano, and other creative endeavors. After attending the University of Regina, Jim entered the workforce building houses for Muttart Homes and quickly moved into a purchasing position. He then switched to hotel management working for various hotels in several different cities across Canada, working as the manager of the Seven Oaks Inn in Regina for many years. He transitioned out of the hotel business to work for MR&S Controls in Edmonton.
Jim was a dedicated and diligent employee regardless of where he worked. In high school, Jim started curling, an activity he continued throughout his life. During the winter, when Jim was not at work, he was curling in various leagues during the week and in both competitive and ‘pickle dish’ bonspiels on the weekend. In the simmer, Jim switched from curling to golf. Jim was also a member of the Kinsmen Club’s ‘K-40’ in both Regina and Edmonton. Jim never stopped being a farm bot at heart and loved to “go home” to the farm to help. He also dearly loved his nieces and nephews. Whatever family he visited, he spent his time playing with and getting to know them better.
Jim is survived by the Moats siblings Murray (Brenda), Glenn (Barb), Marian (Bill) Berry, and Ian as well as nieces and nephews Erin (Tony) Lamport, Amy, David, Janna (Brad Boehm), Ken (Sabrina), Kristen (Chris) Kosty, Andrea (Natalie) Klockenbrink, Evan Berry (Patricia Rock), Jada (Ben) Clithero and Killian as well as great-nieces and nephews.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, Ron and Florence and nephew Brian.
To share stories and memories of Jim, an informal come-an-go reception will be held at the Crestwood Curling Club, 14317 96th Ave, Edmonton on Friday, December 3, 2021 at 3:30-5:30 pm. Proof of vaccination or 72 hour negative test result is required. Facemasks are also required. The family will hold a Celebration of Life and interment of Jim’s ashes in Regina in the late spring 2022. A Facebook page ‘Memories of Jim Moats (Edmonton)’ has been set up to leave messages for the family. Use the link https://www.facebook.com/groups/608065183947969
