Mary Florence Serniak of Edmonton, Alberta passed away on April 12, 2021, at the age of 89 after a short battle with cancer. She was the eldest of 8 children, born March 8, 1932 in Wandering River to Alex and Eliza Stratton and grew up in the Plamondon area.
She married Nick Serniak of St. Paul, Alberta and they lived in Calgary, Brooks, Medicine Hat and St. Paul. Mary later lived in Radway and Edmonton.
Mary is survived by her 5 children, Brian, Lorna, Arlene, Myrna (Gordon), and Shawna (Steve); 8 grandchildren, Dylan, Garrett, Brandi (Shad), Brandon (Soyeon), Amber (Trent), Erin, Danica, and Trylan; and 5 Great Grandchildren, Baylee, Jordan, Lincoln, Loxley and Julian. She is also survived by 5 of her siblings, Jean, Doris (John), Clara, Charles, and Gloria.
Mary was predeceased by Nick Serniak; her parents, Alex and Eliza Stratton; sister Evelyn; and brother Donald.
Mary spent her last few weeks at Norwood Palliative Care. The family would like to thank everyone involved in her care those last few weeks and also those involved in helping to lay her to rest. A special thank you to Dr. Scott Matlock who went over and beyond for Mary. Mary’s faith was her solace and anyone wanting to remember her can say a prayer or have a Mass said for her.
Funeral Mass was held on April 17, 2021 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Sherwood Park, Rev. Jim Corrigan officiating. Interment took place at Holy Cross Mausoleum.
