It’s is with great sadness we announce that John Bruce Colwell passed away peacefully on March 29, 2021, at the age of 70.
He was born in Wingham, Ontario and grew up and raised his family in Lucknow. He was predeceased by his parents Currie and Doris (Eadie) Colwell. He will be sadly missed by his wife Shirley (Reid) Colwell, his children Chris (Mary) Colwell, Tarrin (Evan) Poll, Gavin Colwell, Ainsley (Curtis) Duplessis and his Grandchildren, Kieran, Kendahl, Teagan, Ronin, Everett, Braeden and Adalyn as well as his Mother in Law Margaret Reid.
He loved his time with his grandchildren. He always took the time to teach them about nature, how to build and fix things, swimming, fishing, canoeing and hanging out in the gravel pit.
Wherever he is now we know that he is likely outside barefoot in his cutoff jeans.

Shocked and saddened to hear of Bruce’s passing. Our heartfelt condolences to all his loved ones❤️
Wm has many memories of the wonderful Colwell family, especially in their Scouting and Venturer days. His nickname was Squirrel because of his athleticism. He remembers seeing a young Bruce shovelling his grandparents lane way of 3’ of snow on Havelock St., shirtless. Wm borrowed many implements from Bruce while we were neighbouring farmers. In corn harvesting season, they helped each other. Wm remembers Bruce teaching a young Paul MacIntryre how to drive the corn harvester. Proud Paul was so small he was standing up to operate it. Bruce first designed the UHMW indestructible cattle canes, previous to developing the 5th Wheel Plate, Wm made the original pattern out of plywood. Bruce in turn cut them out w routers. One time Bruce’s western cattle herd broke out. Wm, Curry and Bruce helped round them up into our pit silo. One tried to scale the wall.
Bruce had a contagious smile. He was one in a million.
Brian Keith says
Our family grew up on the 2nd Concession of Kinloss, and were close neighbours of the Colwell family. Bruce was a valued neighbour, babysitter, gymnastics and swimming instructor, hired man, fisherman, Boy Scout, sports enthusiast and muscle car fanatic. He was always tanned, fit and smiling. Our sympathies at this time of loss. Brian Keith, Sandra Keith Forster and Murray Keith.
